Wiener-Oran Celebration

Photos by Lauren Larsen Studio

Weekend weddings are a labor of love. In many cases, both families come together to participate in the planning stages of the weekend. The anticipation and expectations for a weekend full of celebration and family is high when all parties are involved. Minor details that seemed small at the start of planning become all the more important when guest experience is a focus of the weekend.

It was very important to this couple to get married in a place that they felt was reflective of their personalities. In particular, they were looking for a venue that had both a relaxed atmosphere and a high level of luxury. The aesthetic and picturesque quality of Troutbeck very much spoke to the couple. The bride especially loved the historical significance that Troutbeck offers. In the end, they choose Troubeck because of these qualities, regardless of the fact that their ideal dates were not available.

The first weekend of November is liable to have any kind of weather. It may be unusually warm, like an early September day, or bitterly cold like it’s the dead of winter. The week before Kait and Greg’s wedding was beautiful and warm until the forecast turned and brought snow, hail and low temperatures. We ordered a ton of cozy blankets, tented the ceremony space and brought in lots of heat for both the rehearsal dinner site, which was Troutbeck’s pole barn, and also the ceremony tent in the back walled garden of the venue. In short, we made it work like a charm.

It’s a rare thing when a cozy wintery wedding gets to also enjoy the natural beauty of the outdoors. Additionally, with many couples hosting their weddings during the warmer months of the summer, having a wedding not in the heart of the summer is a fun and welcomed break from everyone’s work lives.

Kait and Greg met in college at Cornell, so they share a load of friends. The entire bridal party and immediate families stayed at Troutbeck for the full weekend and enjoyed each meal together, with no one in a rush to go anywhere. Conversations by the fireplace, s’mores, late night chats over a bottle of wine, chess and pool games were enjoyed by all.

The couple elected to have some minor details repeated between the rehearsal dinner on Friday and wedding day Saturday such as the fonts on the invites and paper details. Besides a few minor details, overall both days were very distinct. For the rehearsal dinner we worked with the mother of the Groom and planned the wedding day with mother of the Bride and the couple. The couple did spend a bit of time helping to plan the rehearsal dinner as well, making sure the spread of food across both days was plentiful and diverse enough. However, they really placed the majority of their focus on the wedding day while still remaining involved in their busy careers.

Both the Bride and Groom left work on Wednesday so they could place the majority of their focus on the forthcoming weekend of celebration. Ultimately, their wedding week was a joyous, and inspired vacation with friends and family.

Troutbeck is one of those venues that speaks to a weekend long wedding because of their ability to provide the following details:

  • Pool & cafe

  • Tennis courts

  • Spa & gym

  • Hiking trails

  • Good food

  • Multiple event spaces to break up a weekend of celebrating

  • Ceremony rain back up location(s)

  • Outside Ceremony locations

  • Enough overnight accommodation for most bridal parties and immediate families

  • Two hotels nearby to host other guests

  • Metro North and Amtrak Train Stations nearby

Many thanks go out to the team of vendors who helped make this wedding weekend a huge success.

And lastly, thank you to both families that were so fun, collaborative and appreciative.

XO

Ashley + team

GQ + Sam | Kontokosta Winery, NoFo Wedding

Genevieve, also known as GQ, and Sam, could not be more suited for one another. They have figured it out. The planning journey with them, as well as the entire wedding weekend, was filled with laughter and good spirits. They both walk through life with humor, perspective and gratitude. The love they share for each other makes spending time with them pleasant and all the more special.  All of these wonderful characteristics of GQ and Sam were palpable during the wedding and amongst their family members as well. Overall, the wedding weekend was fun, relaxed and filled with love.

Below are just a few of the many details that shaped Genevieve and Sam's choices for their wedding.

They wanted the weekend to be easy for their guests and for guests to be closer to one another, which eliminated some of their initial venue choices in the South Fork/Hamptons. They also wanted their ceremony at waterfront. While they loved another venue on the South Fork very much, the choices of pairing The Soundview and Kontokosta Winery together on the North Fork, Wine Country, made for a more communal weekend and bonus as they got that waterfront wedding ceremony they hoped for.

When planning their wedding, Genevieve and Sam left their parents and friends out of the planning process and worked with ADE on their own.  With the help and guidance of ADE, GQ and Sam were able to make choices that ensured their wedding weekend would be fun and relaxed for everyone involved.

When they got a bit behind during planning, they did roll with the punches and gave up control when they needed to. In order to keep sane with everything else going on in their lives, they were able to make time for important elements of the planning process.  We were lucky in every regard.

Shout out to Groom Sam who has called meetings with our team “Wedding Therapy” more than any other client or person.

Having an upscale wedding that was also approachable was important to them and was a success at the end of the weekend. They both love decor and are eager to provide their own opinions. They were sensitive to the question of enough. What would be enough for them, for balance in the tent, to not distract people from conversation, etc. I think we nailed it on the head. What do you think?

Many thanks to Carats & Cake for featuring this beautiful wedding. We would plan this type of wedding again in a heart beat.

Amanda + Nick | Private Residence | East Hampton, NY

Amanda and Nick Cvetic planned their wedding on the extreme go, while working between Atlanta, New York City, and at some points Dallas, Austin and London, and maybe a few other cities I am forgetting. Amanda, a career woman herself, works for the impeccable, lovely and loyal Nina LeSavoy, owner of Avec Capital. Nina generously loaned her historic and noteworthy home in East Hampton to her long time loved employee and right hand lady Amanda. The home made for a weekend wedding location, one where the couple took over the place just like you would your own vacation home. Generous is an understatement.

Nina’s notable home’s most interesting detail was the silo at the front door, a perfect location for the couple’s first look and also where Amanda walked from with her father for the ceremony.

Amanda is originally from Atlanta, which is where the greater majority of the couple’s guests flew in from. Smaller than the big weddings Amanda and her friends often attend down South, the couple kept their wedding intimate, just hitting above 100 guests. However, Amanda is a southern girl at heart, so the smaller feminine touches such as the lace edged napkins and rose gold flatware satisfied any southern wedding regrets.

Ironically, Amanda had worked for Jenny Yoo years prior and also was an intern for a Wedding Planner in Atlanta. That being said, Amanda was great to work with because she immediately saw how one detail on a screen would play out in real time, she herself not being able to attend too many in person meetings.

We also became very lucky regarding photography. Amanda and Nick’s original choice of photographers became pregnant during the year leading up to their wedding. Unfortunately, she was put on bed rest in the weeks before the wedding, so they needed a replacement photographer. I suggested a few that I knew they would love and Eric Kelley stood out on my short list. Gosh, we were so lucky that he was still available and willing to head out to the Hamptons from Virginia given his packed fall season. Could not thank him enough! What a talented photographer and lovely person to work with!

Thank you to Hamptons Aristocrat for doing a fabulous job on BOTH the rehearsal dinner at Salt Drift Farm and the wedding day!

… and last but not least, thank you to Sunny Limos who navigated well over 30 pickups and drop-offs throughout every town and village in the Hamptons with Saturday traffic! We cannot thank them enough for their attention to detail prior to the wedding as well as the weekend of the wedding.

Amanda and Nick’s wedding was a special and beautiful one that rounded out or 2018 season. We wish them the best of luck with their journey together and thank them for being a great couple to work with.

Cannot wait for our 2019 and 2020 weddings that are all in development!

NICOLE + ROSS | Blue Hill Stone Barns | Tarrytown, New York | October 2017

This wedding was a joy to plan. During the planning process, Nicole and her mother had somewhat different tastes in aesthetics. However, it was their combined love for the beautiful venue at Stone Barns coupled with our own ability to be not only diplomatic but also showcase ideas that they would both love which, in the end, set them up for success.

One element of their design that was different than most of our weddings is that they both favored paper that had considerable detail. They both moved forward with intricately designed invitations and save the dates a bit on their own and had good renderings early so the over all design fit into the paper details.

Being cohesive was super important to them both and, in particular, the Mother of the Bride. The family entertains enough at home and had learned from past experience that they love consistency. There are many details you cannot see in their photography. Details such as the ribbon and name tags on the flip flops and blankets. Other details like their specialty coffee and hot cocoa station, their enormous and cool outdoor lounge with plenty of games for those less inclined to dance.

You never know what is going to stick after a wedding. The couple’s adorable and memorable first dance, well rehearsed after months of classes, made the whole room tear up. Then the best man speech had so much love you wanted to hug your neighbor. The surprise, albeit less emotional, was the guest’s love for their linens and napkins. Multiple guests asked the Mother of the Bride where their beautiful La Tavola linens came from and they also asked about the dinner napkins, which also came from La Tavola. In fact, two ladies called us separately asking where to purchase their velvet ecru linen lined napkin!

We anxiously await July of 2019 when we will be back at the one-and-only charming Blue Hill at Stone Barns for another buyout!

Happy venue shopping and congratulations again to Nicole + Ross.
